    Waterstones Bookshop Aberdeen

Information about the Waterstones Bookshop in Aberdeen with competitions, offers and discounts with review of the shops and website facilities

Who can resist the smell of new books and the allure of being the first to turn a clean page? Well I certainly can't and Waterstones in Aberdeen Union Street is my favourite offline bookshop. I just love entering the shop and smelling the books! Unless it's a rainy day in Aberdeen in which case I visit the Waterstones online bookshop at www.waterstones.co.uk - an advantage of this is that you get free delivery to your home when you spend over £15 or free delivery to the Union Street Waterstones bookshop branch no matter how much or little you spend. You can then collect your books when you next visit the book shop. Another advantage is that you can return the books to the Aberdeen branch for a refund or exchange if you have bought them online and have . So no having to rewrap the books, queuing at the Post Office or paying for return postage. the prices on the website are often cheaper than in store.

What I love best about the Waterstones shop is the enthusiasm of the staff who seem to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the books on the shelves. I've always had my questions expertly answered and they always seen to know exactly where to find a specific book.

Book stock levels are always high so most recently published books are in the Aberdeen branches of Waterstones. There is also the option of ordering at www.waterstones.co.uk and collecting the books which are usually there within a few days. This is a great option for harder to find books or really niche books such as reference books for College or University.

    Waterstones Union Street

There are two branches of Waterstones in Aberdeen. At the top end of Union Street is the older branch on the junction of Bon Accord Street and lower down Union Street, within the Trinity Centre is a slightly smaller store. This store used to be Ottaker's. Both follow the same layout and for the purpose of this review the shop plan will be described together. Facilities will be described for each Waterstone's shop.

Each shop stocks popular and new book releases on the ground floor. Each has disabled access to these areas and there is enough room between book racks and shelves to move about in a wheelchair or push a buggy or pram. The children's sections are also on the ground floor, though there is also a larger kids section on the first floor of the Trinity Centre. The reference section for the older Waterstone's on Union Street is on the second floor. Other sections in both stores include biographies, audio books, graphic novels, fiction, food and drink, health and wellbeing, music, stage and screen, travel, sport, science fiction, romance, etc.

Find Extra Work We also run the www.findextrawork.co.uk website where there is information about earning more money from a range of part time and full time jobs which can be done at home or out and about. Visit for more information.

Local books about Aberdeen are advertised in the shop window and are available to buy on the ground floor. Both branches of Waterstones in Aberdeen buy in books from local authors which may not be available from other shops or online stores. For example they are currently selling a history of Torry - Its History and Its People by Gordon Bathgate. Some local books are pre signed by the author and there are events at Waterstones listed below which include personal book signings. For example non fiction Aberdonian author Doris Davidson always finds time for a wee chat and signs her new book each year for Aberdeen fans.

The nearest car park for the Union Bridge, Union Street branch is the Trinity Centre.

There are no toilets in either branch, however the Trinity Centre has public toilets on the lower floor of the car park which is accessed from stairs or a lift. There are roomier toilets in Debenhams on the second floor by the cafe.
