Aberdeen Councillors voted to give pupils a day off school to celebrate St Andrew's Day 2009, though teachers will still have to go to work since it is an in service training day rather than a public holiday.
The Famous Grouse whisky performed a survey in 2008 about St Andrews Day in Aberdeen. Over 50% said that November the 30th was the perfect day to celebrate the traditions of Scotland. 80% thought that St Andrews Day should be spent with family and friends. When asked to name inspirational Scots the survey respondents replied Sir Sean Connery (12%) and Billy Connolly (10%).

Historic Scotland are throwing open their doors and offering free entry to several attractions throughout Aberdeenshire to celebrate St Andrew's Day Aberdeen. These
include Huntly Castle, Tolquhon Castle in Tarves and further afield Elgin Cathedral, Spynie Palace in Elgin, Dallas Dhu Distillery in Forres, Fort George near Inverness,
Urquhart Castle and Corgarff Castle in Strathdon. Other HistoricScotland properties throughout Scotland are open to the public for free on the 30 November 2007 and these
include Edinburgh Castle where the Scottish Crown Jewels are on display, Stirling Castle, Doune Castle, St Andrews Castle, St Andrews Cathedral,
Bothwell Castle, Craignethan Castle, Dumbarton Castle, Glasgow Cathedral, Rothesay Castle, Linlithgow Palace, Tantallon Castle, Caerlaverock Castle, Cardoness Castle,
Dundrennan Abbey, New Abbey Corn Mill, Sweetheart Abbey, Dryburgh Abbey, Jedburgh Abbey, Melrose Abbey and Smailholm Tower.
The National Trust for Scotland are also offering free entry to their attractions which include Crathes Castle near Banchory. Culloden Battlefield will be open
from 11am to 3pm for free and special events for St Andrews Day include Gaelic music and pipes, complimentary coffee and Saltire shortbread, talks by military
historian Dr Christopher Duffy, living history events about the Jacobites costumes, traditions and weapons, raising of the Saltire with pipe band music and a Culloden
Battlefield guided tour by Jill McNicol.

For the year 2007 Aberdeen City and Council is collaborating with other councils such as Edinburgh and Glasgow to bring a Scottish winter festival for locals and visitors on St Andrew's Day. Events are part funded by The Scottish Government.
St Andrew's Day Ceilidh
A St Andrew's Day Ceilidh will take place on Friday 30 November 2007 from 8pm until midnight at a specially installed Scottish themed marquee at the Union Terrace Gardens. Tickets to the night of traditional Scottish music and Scottish dancing are available from the Aberdeen Box Office at a cost of £5. Local band Last Resort will be performing.

St Andrew's Day Tea Dance
The St Andrew's Day Tea Dance will take place on Saturday 1 December at the Union Terrace Gardens from 1:30pm until 4pm. Admission to the St Andrew's Day Tea Dance is £2 and musical entertainment is by the Garioch Blend. Tickets can be purchased from the Aberdeen Box Office. This St Andrews Day Aberdeen forms part of the winter festivals of Aberdeen.
St Andrew's Celebration Doric Cabaret Night
On Saturday 1 December at the special Scottish theme Union Terrace Gardens marque there will be a St Andrew's Celebration Doric Cabaret Night from 8pm until after 10pm. Tickets cost £3 from the Box Office next to the Music Hall in Aberdeen City Centre. This will be an evening of Doric humour and entertainment from Aberdonian entertainers, comedians, musicians, storytellers and dancers.
