2007 Race For Life Aberdeen
The 2007 Race For Life in Aberdeen took place on 24 June at the Kings Links. The 2007 Aberdeen race For Life was the 11th event.
Over 700 women took part in the 2007 Aberdeen Race For Life, 5000 in the morning and 2000 in the afternoon race. Despite the heavy rains and strong winds that
battered the North East the runners remained cheery and had a fun day. £465,000 was raised by generous Aberdonians for the Cancer Research UK charity.
The number one and number two vests were given to the local Aberdeenshire newspaper The Evening Express. The EE ran a competition to win these running vests
with the number 1 and 2. To qualify to have the honour of wearing these first two vests an entrant had to have been treated for cancer and be able to wear the vests to
show other Aberdonians that people do survive cancer, be treated and enjoy life. Other entrants could have cared for someone with cancer and be running in their memory
and even raising sponsor money for cancer charities.
The winner of the number one vest was Jane Christie a mum with incurable breast cancer. She was diagnosed with the cancer in 2003 and sadly it has spread to her lungs. Despite her illness she continues to raise money for charity and continues to work as a sheltered housing warden in Rosehill. Jane Christie will be running with her niece Leanne Ewing and her son's fiancée.
The number two Race For Life Aberdeen vest was awarded to Dawn Laird who has been fighting breast cancer since 2005. She was nominated by her nine year old daughter Melissa. They will be running together at the 2007 Aberdeen Race For Life.
