Inverurie panto favourite, Gavin Davidson, will play Widow Twanky and be joined by Ailsa Davidson and Anna Emslie.

    Inverurie Panto

The annual tradition of the Inverurie Pantomime dates back to 1980 when His Majesty’s theatre in Aberdeen closed for refurbishment which meant that there was no Aberdeen pantomime that year. A group formed and performed Peter Pan in the Inverurie Town Hall. Since then the Inverurie Panto has gone from strength to strength, getting bigger, better and more popular with each production. Following the success of Cinderella, Dick Whittington and Peter Pan, Aladdin promises to be the biggest and best pantomime at Inverurie to date. It will feature spectacular effects, state of the art lighting, custom design sets and fantastic mix of music, dance and local humour. Aladdin opens on 10th December and runs until Christmas Eve.

Trap 4 production would like to take the audience of the 2011 Inverurie Pantomime to the Far East with Aladdin. Come and witness the magical wonders the Orient holds in this spellbinding show which will conjure up sensational entertainment for all the family. The hilarious original panto script by local playwright Garry Watson is sure to have you rolling in the aisles.

Widow Twanky will be played by Gavin Davidson, a Police Sergeant by day and who manages to juggle his very busy career with his love of stage work, having been involved in numerous shows, both onstage and off, with various companies throughout the North-East. Gavin swaps his Hook from last year’s role as Captain Hook to play the Dame. Read further below to read the About Aberdeen review of last year’s Inverurie Panto

Proving that Inverurie is a family favourite Aladdin will be played by Ailsa Davidson whilst Wishy Washy will be played by cheeky chappie Ricky Garden who has delighted previous audiences having played Buttons in Cinderella, Idle jack in Dick Whittington and Smee in Peter Pan. Ricky has vowed to have a better aim when throwing the sweeties out to the audience this time round.

The role of evil Abanazar will be performed by Laura Pike who delighted audience last year with her role as the Fairy Tinker Bell in last year’s production of Peter Pan. Once again, Laura has combined her onstage role with her offstage role as Assistant Musical Director.

The Genie Of The Lamp will be Ryan Peacock who is a weel kint face around the North East where he performs with the Rat Pack Trio Ocean’s 3.

Panto veteran Sophie Hamilton performs as Princess Jasmine in her 13th consecutive production! Sophie is now a student at the University of Aberdeen, studying Law, Sophie played the title role in Cinderella which was her first lead part in a show.

Emperor Ming will be played by Stuart Youngson who has performed in various productions in Aberdeen whilst the Empress Ming will be performed by Jill Hay who joined the cast of Cinderella four years ago as the Inverurie Panto Fairy Godmother and returns this year to play the Wicked Empress Ming. As a retired teacher, Jill leads a life of leisure and pleasure, although finds a great deal of time to participate in various theatrical antics across the North-East.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The 2012 Aberdeen panto will be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from Saturday 1 December 2012 to Sunday 6 January 2013.

    Peter Pan

Peter Pan Panto Peter Pan will be performed at Inverurie Town Hall to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Inverurie Panto in what promises to be the biggest and best pantomime to date. Peter Pan by J.M Barrie was the first pantomime to be performed at Inverurie.

The Inverurie panto production of Peter Pan will feature spectacular flying effects, state of the art lighting, custom design sets, lavish costumes and a fantastic mix of music, dance and local humour.

Peter Pan pantomime opens on the 11 December in the Inverurie Town Hall and runs until Christmas Eve.

Tickets for Peter Pan panto start from just £10 and can be booked by calling the ticket hotline 0845 527 8151 or online at www.inveruriepanto.com.

About Aberdeen were delighted to receive free tickets to the Inverurie panto from Director Keith Donaldson and had a fantastic evening at this family orientated panto. There were laughs aplenty and the performance cheered us all up after the recent bad weather. Captain Hook was a delightfully delicious villain with a cheeky twinkle in his eye and interacted wonderfully with the audience, receiving many a boo and he entertained the children by going in amongst the audience to plunder their sweeties and was rewarded with haribo sweets. Smee and Tinkerbell made up their loss when they came amongst the audience with free sweets. Captain Hook is only a baddie at night though – by day he is Sergeant Gavin Davidson of Grampian Police.

The beautifully costumed Tinkerbell was played by Laura Pike who brings her experience of being Head of Drama and Director of Music at Aberdeen Albyn School. Smee had a traditionally colourful and comical costume which was complimented by the cheeky characteristics of Richard Garden who warmed the hearts of the audience as they shouted Aye Aye Captain each time he arrived on stage. However his costume was not as colourful as the many dresses worn by Nana, played by broad Doric speaker James Yule who enjoyed a flirt and cuddle with the men in the front row.

Peter Pan was played with great gusto by Peterhead lass Stephanie Bruce who has such a beautiful singing voice which is complimented during duets with bonnie Sophie Hamilton who played Wendy.

The cuties of Inverurie Panto is wee Michael Smith who played Michael and Joel Robertson who played John, both of whom melted the hearts of the audience. Tik Tok was a great surprise but not like the jump out of your seats bangs that accompanied the appearance of some of the characters. Linda MacKenzie crafted a unique pink costume for Tik Tok and Rachel Morgan brought the character to life with her captivating dance routines.

The supported cast were ever so enthusiastic and this was demonstrated during the energetic rendition of Eye of the Tiger. Dance moves were seamlessly choreographed and this was further demonstrated when they danced alongside Captain Hook to many popular dance moves including the Birdie Song and Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Where else but Inverurie can you see Captain Hook do a moonwalk!

The 2010 Inverurie Pantomime supports the Scottish Huntington Association, the Grampian Kidney Patients Association and the 1st Inverurie Boys Brigade. In addition to being the 30th anniversary of Inverurie panto it is also the 150th anniversary of the birth of Peter Pan author JM Barrie. This production has been updated by script writer Garry Watson to include recent news events such as the volcanic ash cloud and Aberdeen Football Club’s lack of silver in its cabinet and there are plenty of Aberdeenshire references such as rowies being eaten on stage.

Peter Pan at Inverurie Town Hall, by Trap4 productions, runs until 24 December 2010, starts at 7pm and finishes around 9:30pm with a 15 minute interval where ice-cream is served. There is plenty of parking near to the Town Hall and disabled parking at the rear with a side ramp that takes visitors directly to the stalls. For more information or to book a seat visit the Inverurie pantomime website www.inveruriepanto.com

The famed pirate and renowned baddie Long John Silver is also after the map and, with the dim witted Brass and Knuckles and the rest of his cutthroat band, lays siege to the inn. Jim and Ma escape Silver’s clutches and, with the help of Squire Trelawney and his lovely daughter Felicity, set sail to seek their fortune.
