Pannanich Wells Hotel Ballater Ghost Stories

    - The Ghostly Maid And Saucy Maid's Outfit Ghosts!
The ghosts of Pannanich Hotel are friendly and held in great affection by most people who have encountered them.

The owners, Val and Chris took over ownership of this old coaching inn, which dates back to 1760, in 1987 and soon experienced ghostly goings on. The first such strange occurrence was in bedroom one which had an uneasy feeling about it. In an effort to change this they decorated the room with some family teddy bears. The atmosphere changed instantly to one of happiness. Visitors have been said to have heard breathing, but seen no-one else in the room. Others have smelt a violet scent. A few guests have had to leave the Hotel because of the strange smells, though most people like the smells.

A friendly Grey Lady ghost has been seen by the owners. The ghost was dressed in a dark shirt and grey blouse and looked young and slim. She is thought to be the spirit of a Victorian maid. Some newspapers reported the ghost as a sexy ghost dressed in a saucy maid's outfit!

Strange noises such as furniture moving and doors opening have been heard in another part of the hotel and the ghost of a young boy begging for water has been seen. The region is famous for its restoring spa waters and it is thought the boy was looking for a restorative drink.

Famous visitors to the Hotel have included Queen Victoria and Lord Byron. John Brown, Queen Victoria's faithful servant, immortalised by Billy Connolly in the film Mrs Brown, worked in the Hotel before serving the Queen.
