    Olympic Torch Aberdeen

Information about the Olympic Torch which will be paraded through Aberdeen in June 2012 and the Olympic Torch relay route Aberdeenshire:

The Olympic Torch Aberdeen event takes place on 12 June 2012 ahead of the London 2012 Olympics. The Olympic flame will be paraded through the streets of Aberdeen, thought to include Union Street, after being at the Isle of Lewis the same day. The Olympic torch will then make its way to Dundee. The route of the Olympic Torch Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire display can be found further below.

    Olympic Torch Relay Route

The Olympic torch relay route for Aberdeenshire will come from Morayshire and travel through Crathie, Ballater, Dinnet, Kincardine o Neil, Banchory and Drumoak on Monday 11 June 2012. The Aberdeen Olympic torch relay route on Tuesday 12 June 2012 will be Peterculter, Bieldside, Cults and the City Centre. The Olympic torch relay route then heads to Stonehaven and through to Montrose in Angus. There will be an Olympic torch evening celebration event on Monday 11 June.

Other Scottish places to have the honour of displaying the Olympic flame include Edinburgh, Glasgow, Orkney and Shetland. Olympic Torchbearers from the local area will have the honour of carrying the Olympic flame. It is not yet known who will carry the Aberdeen Olympic torch though there can be more than one Olympic torchbearer for the Aberdeen route. AboutAberdeen think that Aberdonian swimmer David Carry could represent the sporting population of Aberdeen whilst singer Fiona Kennedy would make a great representative for Aberdeen culture.

Confirmed Olympic Torch bearers from the Aberdeenshire and North East of Scotland region include 14 year old Ciara Ennis from Huntly who was nominated by mum for her charity fundraising work.
