Lisa Milne
Biography of opera soprano diva Lisa Milne from Aberdeen
Lisa Milne was born in Aberdeen in 1972 and educated at Harlaw Academy. Lisa Milne then studied at the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) of Music and Drama and made her operatic debut with the Scottish Opera.
Lisa Milne often returns to Aberdeen City to perform at venues such as The Music Hall and His Majesty's Theatre (HMT Aberdeen). Recently Lisa Milne performed at The Music Hall on Sunday 18 November 2007 with Lisa Milne and Aberdeen Sinfonietta concert of Mozart and Dvorak. The concert was conducted by David Jones and Lisa performed sets from Mozart‘s Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8.
Soprano Lisa Milne made her Edinburgh Festival debut with a joint recital with Sir Thomas Allen.
Her professional debut was as Gianetta in the Scottish Opera production of L'Elisir d'Amore.
Television work of Lisa Milne includes the 2002 production of Carmen for the BBC in which she starred as Micaëla and the 2004 adaptation of the Turn of the Screw by Benjamin Britten in which she played the Governess.
Operatic work of Lisa Milne includes Die Zauberflöte in which she played Pamina at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Le nozze di Figaro in which Lisa Milne played Countess Almaviva at the English National Opera, Don Giovanni in which she played Donna Elvira at The Sage, Gateshead. Lisa Milne has also performed with the
English National opera, the Danish Opera and in the 2007 and 2008 season she performed as Sian in the new opera The Sacrifice by James MacMillan for the Welsh National Opera.
Concert work of sopranist Lisa Milne includes Fidelio as Marzelline with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and James Levine; The Creation with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle, Ariadne auf Naxos’ with the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Proms with the Hallé and Mark Elder.
Lisa Milne also performs at various national festivals such as the Glyndebourne Festival where she sung Pamina in the title role in Handel’s Rodelinda and at the Göttingen Handel Festival as Serse in Atalanta. In the Salzburg Festival Lisa Milne performed in Fidelio.

Recitals by Lisa Milne regularly take place at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh Scotland, the Oxford Lieder Festival, the City of London Festivals and the Wigmore Hall in London, the Aix-en-Provence, the Schumannfeste in Dusseldorf, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels;
In 2005 LisaMilne was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Other awards presented to Lisa Milne from Aberdeen include an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Aberdeen and The Robert Gordon University, the Royal Philharmonic Society Award, the Maggie Teyte Prize and the John Christie Award.
