Kartstart is a safe and fun way for all the family to enjoy kart racing. The track is indoors, so no matter what the weather is you'll have a great day out. Kartstart has the largest indoor racing track in the UK and also has a wee track for children aged 3 - 8 to race on. Children aged over 8 can use the large track, so long as they meet the minimum height requirement of 4 feet 2 inches and follow the safety rules. The instructors and safety marshals will group the riders into teams of experience and age - so if you want to race around with your children, friends or family you can. If you'd rather not have children on the track they can accommodate this.

When you enter the complex you need to pay at the office area on the left side, though you can go in and wander around the area, watch others racing, use the cafe and pool tables and games arcades or children's play area.

There is a small racing track as you walk in - don't make the mistake we made by thinking that was a bit small for us adult kids! The big track is through the walkway at the rear. The small track is great fun and safe for those aged 3 -8 and well supervised. The electronic karts are a great way to introduce children to the world of karting safely.
There is a large seating area for parents next to it and a play area with bouncy items, safe balls to throw about, swings and climbing.

Through the large walkway at the end is the big racetrack. The safety marshals and instructors will take your ticket and place you in the queues - we tend to go when they first open as it is much quieter and more fun to have the track to ourselves. Though the marshals only allow 6 riders to a track which allows you more freedom when riding and still provide you the challenge of overtaking other riders.

You need to change into the protective overalls and you'll be issued with a helmet. There are lockers to place your jacket and valuables. You will need a £1 coin for this, which is returned to you when you unlock the locker. After changing there is a short safety briefing and rules about the lights and what to do if you crash! Don't worry about that though - the track is lined with safety tyres, so you just bounce about!

Younger or inexperienced drivers can get tuition from the instructors and will soon be whizzing around the track in no time.

Each session is for 10 minutes, so if you buy a 30 minute session time you'll get 3 sessions. It's done by first come, first served rota, so you may have to wait 10 minutes in between racing whilst another group has a race. There are two tracks so it is not often you need to queue.

Racing Karts

There are two types of racing karts, a shorter chassis lower sized engine for the children (120cc Honda). For those adults and children over 4 feet 8 inches there are more powerful 200cc Honda engine racing carts which can reach speeds of about 45mph. More experienced drivers can use the twin engine professional karts if they obtain a kartstart licence from the marshals and instructors after completing at least 30 minutes of competent single engine karting.

The marshals can give you a computerised printout of your track session. This is great fun to study with team members as it gives you your group position, averages speeds and track times.

Groups can book a track for fun or corporate events and host an event such as a Grand Prix. You get a timed start for the event and set timings/number of laps and there are trophies for the winners. Outdoor karting events can be arranged.

Mini Motos Aberdeen

Owners of mini motos can drive their miniature replica motorcycles at kartstart at the monthly organised mini moto events.

There is a cafe which sells pies, sandwiches, soups, snacks and a range of non alcoholic drinks.

There are two pool tables in the complex at only 50 pence a game. Cues and chalks can be obtained from the office. The racing and shoot them up arcade video games are only from 30 pence each to play.

There are toilets next to the cafe.

There is ample free parking right outside Kartstart and there is disabled access, though there are no facilities for the disabled to drive the karts.

Opening Times Of Kartstart

Kartstart is open 7 days a week from 1200 - 2200 hours, except weekends when it closes at 2100 hours. The track is closed from 1730 - 1830 hours each day, though the cafe and arcade remains open.
