    Biography Of Ian Black

    Olympic Commonwealth Swimmer And Aberdeen Robert Gordons College Headmaster


    Ian Black was born in 1941

    Ian Black represented Britain in the 1958 European Championships and won three gold medals for the 400 metres, 1500 metres freestyle and 200 metres butterfly swimming events.


    In the Commonwealth Games of 1958 at Cardiff, Wales Ian Black won a gold medal for the 220 yards butterfly, silver medal for Scotland in the 440 yards freestyle event and silver for the 4 x 220 yards freestyle relay event.








    In 1960 Ian Black represented Britain in the Olympic Games held in Rome, Italy though just missed out on the bronze medal.


    In 1958 Ian Black was awarded the BBC Sports Personality Trophy.


    In November 2002 Ian Black was added to the names of 50 men and women in the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame.


    He became the headmaster at Robert Gordons College, Aberdeen.
