Information about the Granite City Rally where drivers race through Aberdeen and the Kincardineshire forests:

Each year the Aberdeen and District Motor Club (ADMC) run the Granite City Rally with a starting location in Aberdeen City and a route that takes drivers through the Kincardineshire forests of Durris and Fetteresso. The length of the race is usually 45 miles. Spectators can watch the event and are asked to listen to the safety advice of the safety marshals.

The ceremonial start to the Granite City Rally takes place in a specific location each year, in 2007 this was the Duthie Park and was started by Lord Provost John Reynolds whilst the 2008 Granite City Rally was held in Torry. Headquarters for the Granite City Rally weekend is usually at the Thistle Hotel in Altens.

Granite City Rally 2010

The 2010 Granite City Rally took place on Saturday 17 April. The starting place was not the Duthie Park in Aberdeen for the Granite City Rally 2010 but at The Square in Aboyne in Royal Deeside. Aboutaberdeen are not sure if this was a one off change or if the Granite City Rally 2011 and thereafter will have different starting points.

This third round of the Scottish Rally Championship saw over 100 cars take part. The Granite City Rally 2010 route took teams through Pitfichie, Whitehaugh, Clashindarroch woods and then the usual route described further below before finishing at the Thistle Hotel in Altens, Aberdeen.

The Granite City Rally 2010 winners were David Bogie and his co-driver Kevin Rae who drove a Mitsubishi Evo 9. Second place went to Jock Armstrong and Kirsty Riddick whilst third place was won by Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy.

Granite City Rally 2009

The Granite City Rally 2009 took place on Saturday 25 April and attracted 118 competitors and was the 3rd round of the Scottish Rally Championship. It was the 40th Granite City Rally. It started at the Duthie Park in Aberdeen and the drivers were flagged off by Deputy Lord Provost John West and Jimmy McRae a previous winner and Scottish Rally icon. There were six stages through the Durris and Fetteresso Forest and the Granite City Rally 2009 ended at the Thistle Hotel in Altens.

The first driver to start the Granite City Rally 2009 was Bruce McCombie who was followed by Stewart Davidson and Keir Beaton. The third drivers to start were Laura and Willie Stuart. The winners of the Granite City Rally 2009 were Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy. The runners up were Barry Groundwater and Jude Wylie. Mike Faulkner was the Junior Rally Championship in 1994. Third place was awarded to Jock Armstrong and his co-driver Kirsty Riddock.

2008 Granite City Rally

Information about the 2008 Granite City Rally:

The 2008 Granite City Rally will for the first time go through Torry. In December 2007 the Aberdeen City Council was granted a provisional order by Des Browne, the Scottish Secretary of State, which authorises the Council to close some public roads for the 2008 Granite City Rally and abolish speed limits on the roads used during the Championship rally. The Torry roads used for the 2008 Granite City Rally will avoid residential roads and will see the rally drivers taking turns using a route of Greyhope Road, St Fittick's Road and the roads by Girdleness Lighthouse.

The 2008 Granite City Rally will be broadcast on the BBC TV and on Sky television because it forms part of the Scottish Championship.

The two wheel drive cars will be the first to set off in the Station Road Garage Mitsubishi Granite City Rally at 9am from the Altens Thistle Hotel. The first driver in the 2008 Granite City Rally to set off will be Bruce McCombie from Banchory who will be driving a Ford Puma.

The winner of the 2008 Granite City Rally was Phillip Morrow from Northern Ireland who drove a Mitsubishi Lancer. Second place went to Dave Weston from Aberdeen who drove a Ford Focus WRC.

2007 Granite City Rally

The winners of the 2007 Granite City Rally were Andy Horne and Jim Howie. A bit of glamour was added to the 2007 event when local beauty and former Miss Scotland Nicola Jolly took part as a co-driver for champion driver Louise Muir from Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire to raise funds for Aberdeen charity Cornerstone.

2006 Granite City Rally

The 2006 Granite City Rally was stopped when driver, Graham Lewis, was tragically killed in an accident when he was struck by another car during the event.
