    Giant Ferris Wheel Castlegate Aberdeen

Information about the Giant Ferris Wheel at the Castlegate in Aberdeen with photos, prices and booking details of this great observation wheel with gondola pods

The Giant Ferris Wheel Castlegate Aberdeen received planning permission from Aberdeen City Council in October 2009 and it was hoped that the Great Wheel will be built and opened by November 09. It is thought that the giant ferris wheel at the Castlegate in Aberdeen will remain open for six months.

Unfortunately the Giant Ferris Wheel Castlegate Aberdeen was delayed in Nov 09 when workers found gas pipes and the site had to be moved. This meant that the company had to reapply for planning permission and the wheel would not be ready for Christmas or New Year.

The height of this observation wheel will be about 130ft, as tall as the nearby Citadel building, and this top tourist attraction for Aberdeen will afford breathtaking 360 degree views the city and out to sea.

The giant ferris wheel at the Castlegate in Aberdeen will be located by the Mercat Cross and will hold 30 glass pods, much like similar great wheels throughout the UK which are also known as observation wheels. The other giant wheels can be found in England at London, Manchester, Sheffield, Weston-super-Mare and Windsor. In Ireland there is a giant wheel in Belfast. There are no other giant ferris wheels in Scotland. Overseas observation wheels include Beijing, Berlin, Orlando and Singapore.

Aboutaberdeen will review the giant ferris wheel at the Castlegate in Aberdeen when it opens and add photographs, details of the admission price, how to book tickets online and other information such as disabled access, how many people each pod or gondola holds (thought to be 8), the time of the trip round the wheel, etc.

Find Extra Work We also run the www.findextrawork.co.uk website where there is information about earning more money from a range of part time and full time jobs which can be done at home or out and about. Visit for more information.

The giant ferris wheel at the Castlegate in Aberdeen will be operated by Great City Attractions whose website can be found at www.greatcityattractions.com

A more permanent giant ferris wheel can be found at Codonas Amusements Beach Boulevard

Nearby attractions at the Castlegate include:

Aberdeen Maritime Museum Provost Ross House Shiprow

    Provost Skene's House Aberdeen

    Tolbooth Prison Museum Aberdeen

Nearby restaurants include the La Lombarda Italian Restaurant. The nearest car park to the giant ferris wheel at the Castlegate in Aberdeen is the NCP at Shiprow.

It is unclear at the moment what effect the giant ferris wheel will have on the Castlegate Hogmanay concert. Details will be added to the Hogmanay Aberdeen page.
