10 May to 2 August 2008 - My Ladye Nevells Booke at Aberdeen Art Gallery - Aberdeen Art Gallery is delighted to host the first showing in Scotland of My Ladye Nevells Booke, one of the most beautifully written music manuscripts to survive from the late 16th century. Still preserved in its original ornate binding, it contains 42 pieces for keyboard by William Byrd, the greatest English composer of his age, and was painstakingly compiled by the Windsor-based scribe John Baldwin, who completed work on it on 11 September 1591.
Exhibited in collaboration with the British Library and the University of Aberdeen Music Department.
10 May to 16 August - Ben Boats: Watercolours of George Wiseman at Aberdeen Maritime Museum - George Wiseman was a pierhead artist who painted many of the trawlers of the 1950s and 60s built in Aberdeen for the Richard Irvin trawler fleet. Irvin named most of their vessels after Scottish Mountains, hence the familiar name given the fleet as "Ben Boats".

29 March to 2 August - Deeper than Light at Aberdeen Maritime Museum - An international exhibition of life on the mid-Atlantic Ridge. Prepare to meet Creatures of the Deep eye to eye in this exciting series of displays recreating the life and habitation of the volcanic mountain range in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean known as the mid-Atlantic Ridge. The exhibition is based on the work of the international research project, MAR-ECO, in which scientists from 16 nations, including Aberdeen’s Marine Laboratory, took part.

Thompson.
From 17 November 2007 to November 2008 - The Local Word and Image 500 Years of Printing in Scotland: Traces the development of printing in the city from 1622,
through the publication of the first newspaper in Scotland and into the 19th century when Aberdeen was a major printing centre at
Provost Skene's House.
Throughout March, April and May - The Local Word and Image: 500 Years of Printing in Scotland at Provost Skene‘s House - 2008 brings with it celebrations of 500 years of printing in Scotland. This exhibition traces the development of printing in Aberdeen featuring items from Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums’ Collections as well as from Aberdeen City Archives and Aberdeen Central Library. A second display, featuring prints gifted by Peacock Printmakers (now Peacock Visual Arts) to Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums, examines printmaking as an artistic process.

6 July 2008 - Memorial service at the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting, Union Street at 2pm to mark the 20th anniversary of the Piper Alpha tragedy on the 6 July 1988. It will be led by the Reverend Andrew Jolly who is the chaplain to the UK oil and gas industry. At 4pm there will be an act or remembrance at the Piper Alpha Memorial at Hazlehead Park. The families and friends of those 167 men who died and those affected by the Piper Alpha tragedy are invited to attend the memorial service and the act of remembrance.
