Bomb Alley is published by Pen and Sword Maritime Publishers and is the eye witness account of David Yates as a
below decks Royal Navy seaman in the South Atlantic during The Falklands Conflict Campaign. The book recalls
the horror of the first encounter with Argentinean forces when South Georgia was retaken from the invaders in
Operation Paraquat.
David's ship, HMS Antrim, lead the first attack into the North Falklands Sound. She destroyed enemy defences
and later became part of the main force anti-aircraft defences in the infamous Bomb Alley or San Carlos Water.
HMS Antrim was struck by a bomb in one of the many air attacks. The bombing destroyed her defensive missile
system but through luck the bomb did not explode. Instead it remained on the ship, wedged in the aft heads.
During this barrage from enemy low-flying Argentinean jets other Naval Ships such as HMS Coventry and
HMS Antelope were bombed and lost at sea. The army were desperately trying to secure a bridgehead on the mainland.
Bomb Alley is a raw book, full of the emotion of war, told by an ordinary Royal Navy matelot, far from his
Aberdonian home.
