David Carry Swimmer Aberdeen

Biography

David Carry was born in Aberdeen on the 8th October 1981. He grew up in Cults and was educated at Robert Gordon's College. His headmaster was Ian Black who won medals at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

His mum, Jean, was a county district table tennis champion and his father Peter, was a British Champion skier and now works as a Jeweller. David Carry has a brother, Angus and a sister called Malena.

David is now studying at Loughborough University in Leicestershire where his swimming coaches are Ian Turner and Eileen Adams.

His nickname is DC.

In 2004 David Carry represented Britain in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He was in the 4 x 200 swimming relay squad. They came in fourth place.

Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games

David Carry won bronze for the 400m freestyle event at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in October 2010. David Carry also won the silver medal for the 4 x 200m swimming relay with fellow Aberdonian Robbie Renwick.

Medals of David Carry

In 2006 David Carry represented Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. On the 16 March he won a Gold Medal in the 400m freestyle final. He set a new Scottish record of 3:48.17. Two days later he won another Gold Medal for the Men's 400m individual medley event with a Games record time of 4:15:98.

In April 2006 David Carry won the 400m freestyle at the British Championships in Sheffield with the time of 3 minutes and 50.65 seconds.

In July 2007 David Carry won the double gold at the British championship for the 200m and 400m freestyle events at the ASA National Championships in Sheffield.
In 2008 David Carry will represent the UK in the Olympic Games in Beijing in China.

400m Freestyle Record

In September 2007 Aberdonian swimmer David Carry from Aberdeen beat the 400m Freestyle Record with a time of 3:47:40 at the ASA National Championships in Sheffield, England. The previous holder of the 400m Freestyle Record was Paul Palmer with his timing of 3:48:02 on January 1998.

At the same event Scottish swimmer David Carry won a gold medal in the 200 metre freestyle.

Television Appearances of David Carry

In 2006 David Carry will appear as a celebrity guest on the BBC quiz show A Question Of Sport on 19 May 2006.

On Friday 23 November 2007 David Carry received an honorary degree from the University of Aberdeen in recognition of his swimming achievements

Beijing Olympics

At the Beijing Olympics in August 2008 David Carry of Aberdeen represented Great Britain and broke his own British swimming record for the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:47.17. During this event at the Beijing Olympics David Carry was fifth in his heat and the 15th swimmer overall.

Olympic Exhibition Swim

After the Beijing Olympic games of 2008 there will be an Olympic exhibition swim at Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool by David Carry on the closing date of the pool on Sunday 7 September 08. The Olympic exhibition swim includes fun events for children who can compete with Olympic athlete David Carry. He will also give a talk about his Beijing Olympics experience and show his souvenirs of the event. The Olympic exhibition swim will be compered by Dave McDiarmid of Northsound Radio.
