    Cowdray Hall Aberdeen


    Information about the free lunch time concerts at Cowdray Hall and the history of Cowdray Hall in Aberdeen:


    Cowdray Hall Aberdeen was gifted to Aberdeen by the Cowdray Family in 1926. Several years later, in 1930, the Aberdeen Chamber Music Club formed and performed in the Cowdray Hall in Aberdeen which was noted for its acoustics. Cowdray Hall Aberdeen remains one of Aberdeen's most popular concert venues.

    As can be seen in the photograph of Cowdray Hall there is a war memorial to those from Aberdeen who died during World War One and World War Two. Inside the Cowdray Hall there are more war memorials. Sadly photography is not permitted inside Cowdray Hall and AboutAberdeen have been unable to get a photo of the inside of Cowdray Hall Aberdeen.








    Cowdray Hall in Aberdeen can be found on Schoolhill, next to the Aberdeen Art Gallery and a little walk away from His Majesty's Theatre Aberdeen. The entrance to Cowdray Hall in Aberdeen can be found at Blackfriars Street. The nearest car park is the Denburn car park which remains open in the evening or of equal distance is the Bon Accord Centre car park which usually only remains open during the day.


    Free Concerts Cowdray Hall


    Throughout the year there are many free concerts at the Cowdray Hall. These free concerts at the Cowdray Hall are described below. They are organised by Aberdeen City Council and called the lunchbreak concerts at Cowdray Hall. Each free concert at Cowdray Hall takes place from 12:20pm until 1:30pm and though admission is free donations are welcomed. Entrance to the free concerts at Cowdray Hall is via the Aberdeen Art Gallery where visitors can purchase a sandwich lunch.

    6 March 2008 - Robbie Shepherd and musicians from the Aberdeen City Music School. Outstanding young musicians from the ACMS will join with Robbie Shepherd in this special concert as part of the Story Telling Festival.

    13 March 2008 - Joseph Long (Piano). Well known and highly acclaimed soloist, Joseph Long plays Beethoven’s mighty final Piano Sonata: Beethoven Piano sonata in c minor Op.111.

    27 March Aberdeen Chamber Players Local professional string players together with pianist Blair Cargill play one of Brahms’ most attractive works: Brahms: Piano Quartet in A major op.26

    3 April 08 - Kwang Ho (Piano). Music by Haydn, Ginastera, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Liszt.

    10 April 08 - John Logan (Horn) and Alison McIntyre (Violin) from the RSNO. French Horn and Violin is only just the beginning of this adventurous duo. This concert is supported by the Friends RSNO.

    17 April 08 - Aberdeen Trio. Dvorak:‘Dumky’ Trio. We welcome come back the three musicians of the Aberdeen Trio to play one of Dvorak’s best loved chamber works.

    24 April 2008 - Edinburgh Quartet with Thomas Hobbs (Tenor) and Nicholas Ashton (Piano). Vaughan Williams: On Wenlock Edge. Haydn: Quartet in E flat, Op.76 no.6. In this celebratory year of Vaughan Williams, the Edinburgh Quartet, with two guest artists, will perform one of the most adventurous works of the early 20th century.


    BBC Concert

    The BBC Concert takes place on the 13 December 2007 with Danjulo Ishizaka (Cello) and Jose Gallardo (Piano). Britten: Sonata for cello and piano In C Op.65; Music by Bax and Ireland.


    Christmas Carols

    The Christmas Carols free concert at Cowdray Hall takes place on the 19 December 2007 and is called Carols for Everyone. Roger B. Williams, and Drew Tulloch on piano with a surprise artist appearing. Come along and sing your favourite Christmas Carols and enjoy the acoustics of Cowdray Hall in Aberdeen.

    Paul Anderson on fiddle on the 28 February 2008. One of the world’s leading traditional musicians will give a programme of fiddle music from the North East.
