Situated near Aboyne, Coull Castle was home to the Durward family in the 13th Century.

The Castle is now in a ruinous state and it is thought it may have been ruined as early as the 14th Century, during The War of Independence.

The bell of the church would toll all by itself whenever a member of the Durward family was about to die.
