Christmas in Aberdeen is a magical time. Aberdonians are friendly and jovial at the best of times; more so at Xmas.

There's so much to do in Aberdeenshire during the festive time. There's great shopping in Aberdeen, several shopping centres have some stunning Christmas displays and there's many a Santa Grotto to visit Father Christmas and his elves. There's Santa Trains to take the children to, Carol concerts and lots of Christmas entertainment.

Walking up and down Union Street after dark at Christmas is a visual delight what with the Christmas lights, shops with their decorations and the Christmas trees at The Castlegate and in the Bon Accord shopping centre.

    Winter Festival

Aberdeen Council announced a new Christmas festival line up in August 2007. Visitor number to Aberdeen had dropped in recent years and it was hoped that by having a Winter Festival more people would be attracted to Aberdeen City centre. The new Winter Festival for 2007 started on the 5 November 2007 and finished on the 25 January 2008 after Burns Night celebrations across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Scotland.

One major advantage of the Winter Festival starting on Bonfire Night is that it will include St Andrew's Day and an increase in celebrations was planned.

    Reindeer Dust

A wonderful gift for Christmas 2007 is reindeer dust! The sale of the reindeer dust by staff of Ernst and Young in Aberdeen will be donated to the Macmillan Cancer Support campaign. Reindeer magical dust is traditionally spread over the doorway of a house so that Santa and his sleigh of reindeers will know to stop and deliver Christmas presents. Reindeer magic dust is a great way to add to the children's excitement of Xmas and is available from Macmillan Cancer Support Unit 4 Scotstown Road Aberdeen, Bridge of Don, AB23 8HG or telephone number (01224) 701505.
