2009
If you would like your organised bonfire night or firework display listed on aboutaberdeen.com for free or have a photo of an Aberdeen bonfire night that I may
use on this page then please contact me.
Aboutaberdeen encourage you to support the organised bonfire events and displays in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire which are professionally run and much safer than
running your own bonfire or firework display.
During the Aberdeen City fireworks display 2009 on Thursday 5 November there will be a firewalk in aid of the charity CLIC Sargent, the children's cancer charity. This firewalk will take place at the Queens Link and volunteers are needed to walk across the hot coals.
We also run the

Banchory Firework Night
The 2008 Banchory firework night will take place on Saturday 1 November from 6:30pm when the bonfire will be lit. The fireworks display starts at 7:30pm. Hot dogs will be on sale from 6:30pm from the Round Table and other food and drink stalls are available on the night. The Banchory firework night is a free event though donations to the Round Table charity are welcome. This money is distributed to local charities around the North East of Scotland. The Round Table also sell a selection of glow in the dark novelties for the children and young at heart adults to enjoy. Members of the Round Table are readily recognisable with their Round Table tabards and should not be confused with street traders in the car parks whose profits are not donated to charity and whose prices may not be as reasonable as the Round Table.

The above bonfire night photo at Banchory was taken by Paul Barlow and used with kind permission of banchorybonfire.com
The Banchory firework night is one of the most popular fireworks nights in Aberdeenshire. The 2007 bonfire and fireworks display had over 8000 visitors. Safety patrols will attend the event and visitors are asked to take their advice and to respect the barricades. Other safety features at the King George V Park include sand pits for the safe disposal of hand held sparklers, flood lighting in special areas and a public address system for safety announcements. The Banchory firework night ends at 10:30pm. The bonfire will be put out by the Fire and Rescue Service with a clean up by the Round Table. In 2007 Aberdeenshire Council introduced sting operations to cut down on shopkeepers that sell fireworks to underage shoppers. Sixteen year old mystery shoppers will try to purchase fireworks from shops across Aberdeenshire.
The aim of these test shopper fireworks is to cut down on the problems each bonfire night and the weeks before and after such as noise of fireworks like bangers by children. The fireworks test purchasing campaign was approved by the Scottish Courts in 2005 under tight legislation due to the test shoppers having to be teenagers. Since then three people in Aberdeenshire have been charged with offences related to selling fireworks to people aged under 18 years.
Shops that sell fireworks in Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire have been sent information about the law relating to fireworks and the legal sale of fireworks and the correct storage of fireworks. Inspections by the council's consumer protection service will be increased in the weeks leading up to fireworks night and during November. Officers will inspect the stores selling fireworks to ensure legislation is being adhered such as prominently displaying signs and legal notices and that any fireworks sold do not exceed 120 decibels. The officers will be particularly focusing on the Banff and Buchan area because of problems in previous years. Aberdeen City Council and Grampian Police will also be focusing on reducing problems and crimes caused by fireworks and the sale of fireworks. This will include an increase in police patrols during the peak of the bonfire season.
